In mid-June 2025, Swedish police at NOA (the National Operations Department) in Stockholm received a report from the American non-profit organization NCMEC, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
The organization operates the Cyber Tipline — a reporting hotline for suspected sexual exploitation of children (CSAM, Child Sexual Abuse Material).
Alarm about a preschool in Sweden
This time, the organization had received a tip about sexual crimes against children, with traces leading to a preschool in Sweden and a 35-year-old employed preschool teacher suspected of committing serious child pornography offenses and crimes against young children aged 3–6 years.

Among other things, the man filmed the children’s genitals with the preschool’s iPad during toilet visits and then manipulated the images into child pornography using AI (Artificial Intelligence).
Open AI’s safety system had flagged the man’s activities (prompts, uploads, and attempts to generate/manipulate abuse material) and reported this to NCMEC via its hotline (as they are required to do under U.S. law).
The most vulnerable have the greatest risk of being subjected to violence
It’s the same old pattern that I’ve written about in thousands of articles over the last 15 years, and more than 15 articles in the past two years about rapes of elderly, frail women receiving home care or other elderly services: the brutal, derailed society strikes hardest against the very weakest.
Contempt for weakness is deeply rooted in human nature, even though we think of ourselves as civilized beings. It strikes the weakest and most helpless — children and the elderly.
Those who should be the most protected have the greatest risk of being subjected to violence.
AI opens enormous opportunities for pedophiles
But the implication of this case — and many similar ones — is also another: AI has conquered yet another area of use and opens enormous opportunities as a technical aid for pedophiles to produce serious child pornography.
At the same time, AI can become the police’s primary tool in the hunt for pedophiles.
“The police should be able to use AI-generated child pornography to make contact with perpetrators online.”
This is what police officer Louise Åhlén, operations developer at NOA, the National Operations Department, told GP.
“When we feel there are no other options and we must reach the child or find the perpetrator, this is a tool we can use” she says.
At the same time, she admits that such material comes with difficult ethical considerations.

To get a sense of the significance of this current case, I myself consult AI Grok on X.

It will likely receive a lot of attention going forward, not least given the man’s workplace (the preschool) and the extent of the crimes.”
The police in Stockholm receive the alert on June 13 2025 and immediately forward it to the police in Visby.
The case lies dormant for more than 2,5 months with the Visby police
There, the case remains untouched for more than two and a half months before the suspect is arrested.
During that time, the man manages to commit even more crimes at the Bullerbyn preschool in Visby, where he works, and produce several hundred child pornographic images. He also induces some of the children to touch his genitals.
The Gotland police area thus enables the suspected preschool teacher to continue committing sexual crimes against children. Neither children, parents, nor staff have any idea what is going on.
It is not until September 3 2025 that the man is detained in absentia and arrested the same day with a full show of force during a major police operation at an address in southern Gotland. After waiting more than 2,5 months, for some reason the police were equipped with, among other things, shields and reinforcement weapons during the arrest.
On December 29, the police report themselves for official misconduct and for delaying the prosecution of the suspected man, reports P4 Gotland.

The arrested and remanded man has worked in childcare for ten years and changed workplaces many times. As a man in a traditionally female profession, he has been welcomed with open arms at work everywhere by parents, children, and staff alike.
He comes from a left-wing family in Östergarn, the eastern part of Gotland where many of the leading residents are communists. He sees himself as a humanist and left-wing feminist. He has three sisters.
When he is 21, he takes the initiative for a carpooling project, since the island has poor public transport. Virtue points awarded.
Tore down Sweden Democrats’ election posters
Together with his girlfriend, he tears down several election posters belonging to the Sweden Democrats a few days before the parliamentary election in September 2018. That kind of behaviour earned virtue points in 2018.
Like his family, he is active on social media with various left-wing political statements. Virtue points are tempting. How this virtue reconciles with photographing young children’s genitals and creating serious child pornography remains unsaid.
In police interviews, the man says that he was only nine or ten years old when he first realized he was sexually interested in children. He downloaded serious films and images via LimeWire. It was primarily girls of preschool age that he was interested in, but he also has broader preferences.
As an adult, he has repeatedly sought out workplaces where he has access to children in precisely the age group he is sexually attracted to.
Lost control in relation to AI
He says that he has since “pushed it away,” but “it” has come back. But it wasn’t until he came into contact with AI and understood its possibilities that he completely lost control. He has filmed and photographed and manipulated images. He doesn’t know when he downloaded the material that has now been found. He has had it since 2024 or 2025.
He is the only one who has had access to his devices — he is the one who downloaded the material. Previously, he used AI so much that he couldn’t sleep and then had a psychosis.
Created nude images of two female colleagues
He doesn’t know exactly when he started using AI for child pornography, but it was during May to August 2025 — that is, during the period when the Visby police had been informed of the suspicions against him but had not yet intervened.
The fact that he used different AI programs is because the programs do different things. Some programs “undress” people naked, others create moving images. He has used the undressing program, among other things, to create nude images of two of his female colleagues at the preschool who were completely unaware of it. He says he had no control over himself. The two colleagues did not learn about the manipulated nude images until during police interviews.
Photographed the children’s genitals in the toilet
Mainly, he has engaged in photographing the genitals of several of the young children at the preschool when he helped them in the toilet or when they were lying in the rest room. In one case, a little girl pedaling around on a tricycle in the preschool yard. The children have not understood what they were subjected to.
He then used AI tools to manipulate the images into explicit child pornographic images and films. He had also asked detailed questions to ChatGPT, for example about young children and sexual attraction, as well as seeking advice on hidden filming.
“He has filmed in a highly privacy-sensitive place and in a manner intended to violate the children in a very serious way. According to the district court’s assessment, the crimes in all cases are to be considered serious” writes the district court.
When the man is arrested on September 3, 2025, the police seize his computers and phones and find the extensive material. The indictment application against the man is submitted on December 3, and the trial begins on December 8, 2025.
The photographing took place secretly and without consent
For photographing or filming to be considered violating under the law, it must have taken place unlawfully and thus without the consent of the person depicted. The photographing took place secretly, meaning that the person being filmed or photographed was not aware of it.
Finally, the filming or photographing must have taken place in an area protected by law. All the injured parties are very young children who cannot consent to being photographed.
There are 18 injured parties in the case. In total, it involves 68 criminal charges.
The man possessed a total of 3 709 files containing child pornographic images and films. The material consists of 2 256 images and 275 films with a total playing time of approximately 4 hours and 44 minutes, of which 1 513 images and 221 films are from the preschool, and 756 images plus 422 films with a combined playing time of 36 hours and 12 minutes.
Parts of the material are particularly ruthless
The district court considers the offense should be assessed as serious due to the fact that the 36-hour material is to be regarded as particularly ruthless, as it among other things depicts children where puberty has not begun or been completed, where children are subjected to oral, vaginal, and anal penetration, where children are bound and where bodily fluids are present.
The man is convicted of one serious child pornography offense consisting of possession of a large number of child pornographic images and films. He is further convicted of several child pornography offenses, serious sexual molestation of children and violating photography.
Has abused his position as an employee at the preschool
The district court considers it particularly aggravating that through his crimes he has abused his position as an employee at the preschool — a place where children should be able to feel safe.The district court also emphasizes that the man, despite having long known about his sexual orientation, deliberately sought out work with children.
The fact that he has now lost this job is not a mitigating circumstance that should affect the sentence, the district court believes.
Sentenced to prison for 3 years and 6 months
Nor are there any other grounds for leniency that should affect the penalty value.
“No other sanction than imprisonment can be considered” writes the district court.
The man is sentenced on December 23, the day before Christmas 2025, to imprisonment for three years and six months in accordance with the total penalty value for the crimes.
I name the man because he poses a risk to children
Due to the great public interest, children’s legitimate need for protection, and parents’ need to protect their young children from abuse, I choose to name the convicted man.
Given the long-standing sexual attraction to young children that he himself admits, there is a significant risk of recidivism; a risk that after serving his sentence he may still pose a danger to children. This is a circumstance that no parent wants to expose their child to. The brutal nature of the acts and the length of the sentence are additional reasons for naming him.The convicted man is named Alvar Klöfvermark, born 1990.
Mother of two: “He has been a part of our lives for five years”
The parents reacted strongly when they were informed of what had happened at the Bullerbyn preschool. Leaving your child in someone else’s care requires absolute trust. Now the parents learned that perhaps their own child had their genitals filmed in the toilet or during rest time, without knowing anything or having the opportunity to protect their child. This naturally triggers shock and crisis reactions.
“He has been a part of our lives for five years” says a mother of two, who has her children at the preschool, to P4 Gotland. The day before Alvar Klöfvermark was remanded, she left her youngest daughter with him.
“He has always joked and laughed a lot with the children”
At first she didn’t want to believe that what had happened was true. Then she became sad and angry. After reading the indictment, she feels great anger and sorrow.
“One person gets to destroy so much for so many.”
The mother is critical of Region Gotland for not informing guardians sufficiently about the extent of the events described in the indictment. She is not satisfied with the answers she has received to her questions.
“They have presented it as a normal day at the preschool. But it’s not at all.”
She feels anger and disgust.
“How can they say that nothing more has happened? They don’t know that!”
